About Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens (1812–1870) is one of the most influential and celebrated authors in English literature. Known for his unforgettable characters and his vivid depictions of Victorian society, Dickens wrote classics such as Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, and A Christmas Carol.

His Christmas stories in particular reshaped the modern celebration of Christmas—popularising themes of generosity, family warmth, and festive reflection. A Christmas Carol, first published in 1843, remains one of the most beloved holiday tales of all time.

Dickens’s works were so widely treasured that, after his death, publishers issued comprehensive “Household Editions” to bring his entire literary catalogue into everyday Victorian homes. This volume comes from that historically significant series.
