A handsome 1898 Cambridge Edition of The Poetic and Dramatic Works of Alfred Lord Tennyson, edited by noted American scholar W. J. Rolfe and published by Houghton, Mifflin & Company at the Riverside Press, Cambridge.
Published only six years after Tennyson's death, this substantial 887-page volume brings together his poetry and dramatic works. Rolfe compared Tennyson's frequently revised texts against earlier editions, including those of 1830, 1833 and 1842, giving the collection additional scholarly interest.
The volume features a portrait frontispiece of Tennyson with facsimile signature and an illustrated title page depicting Farringford, his home on the Isle of Wight.
Bound in dark textured cloth. Binding firm and secure with sound hinges and a tightly held text block. General shelf wear and age toning, but internally well preserved.
An attractive late-Victorian collected Tennyson, ideal for collectors of Victorian literature and English poetry.
